definition- Reflex action is a spontaneous or instantaneous action which occurs when we receive a specific stimulus.
mechanism-
· the heat or pain receptors on the skin become active and the impulse travels through the sensory neuron.
· Now the impulse reaches to the spinal cord where it gets assembled into motor impulse. The neuron over here is called the interneuron or relay neuron.
· This impulse travels through motor neuron and finally we react to the stimulus.

significance-
· It helps to protect our body from stimulus which can turn out to be harmful for us.
· It saves much energy since the impulse does not go all the way to the brain but the spinal cord.
