Research includes any formal gathering of data, information and facts for the advancement of knowledge and for the purpose of making business decisions. While many people use the word “research” meaning “gathering information” scientists use this word in a more specific way during their experimental procedures.
The research methods can vary from primary collection of data to secondary collection of data i.e. questionnaires, interviews, surveys, historical data etc.
An example of research is the information a high school student collects information for a school report.
Another example can be when scientists are trying to research a cure for cancer by collecting and analyzing data from various sources.
