They are called multipurpose because once they are build they serve several purposes. The advantages and disadvantages of dams are indicated below.

Advantages:

  2. We get hydroelectric power from dams.
  3. Dams can be used as waterways.
  4. They can be used for rearing fish for human consumption.

Disadvantages:
