it is also known as munro system.it was tried in a small scale by alexander ..developed by thomas munro and was extende in south india.. in british territories in south there was a similar move away from permanent settlement munro felt that  there were no zamindars to collect revenue ,,so he collected revenue directly,from cultivators

The ryotwari system, instituted in some parts of British India, was one of the two main systems used to collect revenues from the cultivators of agricultural land. These revenues included undifferentiated land taxes and rents, collected simultaneously.
