The Salt Act, famously known as Dandi March was a nonviolent civil Disobedience Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhiji chose salt as a weapon against the British as it was something which is consumed by the rich and poor alike. The monopoly over salt production and taxes on it, Gandhiji declared this as the most oppressive face of British rule.
Therefore, Gandhiji decided to start this movement. Dandi March started form Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi(Coastal Area of Gujarat). The March was of 240 miles with 78 volunteers. People walked 10 miles a day for 24 days. On 6th April, Gandhiji reached Dandi and ceremonially violated the 'Salt Law' by boiling sea water.
This act is one of the most memorable movements led by Mahatma Gandhi, it had a huge impact on Indians.
