SAPONIFICATION REACTION:
It is a reaction in which ester is heated in presence of a base (mainly NaOH) to give out ethanol & ethanoic acid, this process is used in making of soap. NaOH(Sodium Hydroxide)
Example:
CH3COOC2H5(Ethyl ethonate) ----------------> CH3COOH(Ethanoic scid) + C2H5OH (Ethanal)
In presence of NaOH its CHCOONa+C2H50H. Your reaction is reaction with H2SO4 where you get parent alcohol and acid instead of parent alcohol and sodium salt of the acid.
Soaps are sodium or potassium salts of long chain fatty acids.
When triglycerides in fat/oil react with aqueous NaOH or KOH, they are converted into soap and glycerol.
This is called alkaline hydrolysis of esters.
