Agriculture :
The term Agriculture has been derived from a Latin term 'agri' meaning soil and 'culture' meaning cultivation. It may be defined as a human activity involving planned utilisation of land or soil and water for the growth of the plants and animals to meet the basic requirements of food and clothing.
Shifting Cultivation :
It is one of the rudimentary forms of the cultivation. Farmers clear a plot of Land by cutting trees and burning the remains. The ashes are mixed in the soil and crops like maize, potatoes and cassava are grown. This type of agriculture is mostly practised in areas of thick vegetation and heavy rainfall and by tribal communities. It is also known as slash and burn agriculture.
