What do you mean by short circuit and overloading? How does an electric fuse help in both the cases

Overloading : This condition may occur due to accidental hike in supply of voltage.It may occur if due to faulty insulation live and neutral wire come in contact with each other because of faulty insulation. Overloading may cause sparks or fire. Short Circuit: When the current in circuit is increased abruptly, short circuit may occur. It may be due to faulty appliances or faulty connections. As in both the above cases the current or voltage is abruptly increased, the fuse wire in the fuse melts due to heating and thus saves the appliances from getting damaged.
