the skeleton forms the main structure of support.it perform the following function
it forms a framework giving shape to the body
it protect the delicate internal organs of the body for eg the skull protects the brain and the vertebral column protects the spinal cord
it has 2types
axial skeleton and appendicular skeleton

The skeletal system is a combknation of various bones.There are 213 bones in children and 206 bones in adults.These bones differ in shape and size.

     Skeletal system is divided into two parts:

AXIAL BONES-this consists of following bones:

skull-28

sternum-1

ribs-24

hyoid bone-1

vertebral column-26(adults),33(children)

APPENDICULAR BONES-this consists of:

upperlimbs-60

lower limbs-60

FREELY MOVABLE JOINTS---

These joints are also called synovial joints.These are classified into:

1.Gliding Joint-between carpal bones of wrist and between tarsal bones of ankle.

2.Hinge Joint-between humerous and ulna,knee and ankle

3.Conduloid Joint-wrist joint

4.Saddle Joint-joint of thumb

5.Ball and socket Joint-shoulder and hip joints

6.Pivot joint-atlas and axis bone
