Plasmid are the small non-genomic DNA present in prokaryotes in addition to genomic DNA. They are circular double stranded DNA. They have the ability to replicate within the bacterial cells independent of the chromosomal DNA.They are used in recombinant DNA technology as cloning vectors as they consist of gene of antibiotic resistance and they help in transformation.
