The population of France increased from about 23millon in 1715 to 28 Millon in 1789 . This increase in the demand for foodgrains . Production of grains could not keep pace with the demand . So the price of food rose rapidly . The gap between the poor and the rich widened . This led to a subsistence crisis by tis many death happens , riots happen .
