Sustainable development is the development of a country or world not only at present, but the development which is to be continued and maintained for future generations.


For example, groundwater is a natural resource which is replenished by nature. People of a particular generation must use water in such a way that people of future generation may also be able to use groundwater. People should not overuse and degrade the quality of water so that water is exhausted or if it remains, it is contaminated to such an extent that it becomes unusable for people of future generations.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

A development which takes place without harming the natural environment and also keeping in mind the needs of future generation is known as sustainable development.

Optimum , feasible and wise use of resources and utilization also come under this type of development.

INDIA
for instance, we have the facility of ground water which caters the need of the people living in a place.
This water can be drawn with the help of Wells, tubelwells , hand pumps, motors, etc.
Because of this, it is very easy to draw water from the ground.
But, foolishly drawing water from the ground will result in decline of the ground water level in a place which may create ecological imbalance as well as it will leave a very harmful effect on the people living over there.

But, in Punjab .. This is happening. The fields are losing their fertility site to over irrigation. This implies that the water use over there is reckless.
This is not sustainable development.

But, some parts in india have very good and efficient water drawing system.
Thus, water is utilized maintaining the ecological balance as well it is preserved for the future generation.
This is what sustainable development means.
