Required Answer:-

  • Temperature: Temperature is the measure of degree of hotness or coldness.

  • Thermometer: The device used for measuring the temperature of a body is called thermometer.

There are different kinds of thermometer used for measuring the temperature of different materials and objects. The two common scales used for measuring temprature are Celcius and Fahrenheit scales.

  • In 1742, a swedish astronomer, Ander Celcius proposed a scale to be used for thermometers, which now bears his name.

The most commonly used scale is Celcius scale. According to this scale the freezing point of water is taken as 0°C and the boiling point of water as 100°C.

The Fahrenheit scale (°F) was deviced by German physicist, Gabriel Fahrenheit , in 1714. On this scale, water boils at 212°F and freezes at 32°F.
