• Louis (XVI) summoned the Estates General to meet. They decided to meet at the Palace at Versailles.

• Louis (XVI) only wanted to introduce taxes and not other reforms.

• The Third Estate was lead by the Middle Class. The Middle class were disappointed as no reforms would be introduced.

• They decided to revolt and formed the National Assembly. They were joined by the Clergy and noblemen who wanted more power over the government. When they reached the Palace at Versailles, Louis (XVI) retaliated by closing the gates.

• This angered the people. They met at a nearby tennis court.

• There, they took an oath which was known as 'Tennis Court Oath'. They took an oath "not to separate, and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established."

Hope it helps! :)
