doctrine of lapse policy was a policy In which only a natural heirs were allowed to inherit the throne,not a adopted one .If in case the king died and and they do not have any child then the kingdom will be conquered by British army .hope it helps you .mark me as brainliest

A Doctorine of Lapse was the brainchild of Lord Dalhousie. According to this, If any ruler of Subsidary state died without leaving a Netural heir then the state would be Lapse into East India Company rule and also adopted son or ruler would not to be allowed to sit on the throne.
