When heat energy is converted to electric energy, it is called Thermal power.

Most of the Thermal Power stations have steam driven Turbine. In a Turbine, water is heated and converted to steam, which spins a steam turbine driving an electric generator.

Fossil fuels, nuclear and solar energy are used as the heat source, to heat water.
