During translation, mRNA directs the protein synthesis in the cytoplasm of cell with the involvement of another type of RNA molecule namely transfer RNA (t-RNA) and the ribosomal particles (RNA protein complexes).

The process begins with the attachment of mRNA to a ribosomal particles present in the cytoplasm. The triplet (codons) expressed in mRNA on the ribosomal particle is read by transfer RNA (t-RNA).

Each triplet of tRNA then carries the specific amino acid and transfer it to the proper location on the ribosomal particles.
