★ What do you mean by valency? [DoE]
→ Valency is define as the combining power of an element with another element to form a chemical compound.
→ In other words It is the number of electrons an atom of an element can gain,lose or share. The valency of an atom is equal to the valence electrons.
★ Example :-
→ We know that the valency of oxygen is 2 as its electronic configuration is 2,6 and it need 2 electron to complete their octet.
★ Extra information :-
→ To write the chemical formula for a compound it is best to use the S.V.S.D.F system.
→ There is a great importance of valency. Basically when two atom react each other,it is their outer shell that come into contact first and it is therefore the electron on outer shell that are normall involved in chemical reaction.
