Wood’s Despatch is the event observed in History of India under British Rule. Sir Charles Wood was the Preseident of Board of Control of the British East India Company. In 1854 he sent the Despatch to the then Governor Lord Dalhousie regarding the education in India.

Wood suggested that primary schools must adopt vernacular languages, high schools must adopt Anglo vernacular language and on college level English medium for education. This is known as Wood's despatch.

Charles Wood was a British Liberal politician and Member of Parliament. He served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1846 to 1852. Later he became the President of the Board of Control of the East India Company. In 1854 he sent the “Wood's despatch” to the Governor General Lord Dalhousie.
