Answer:

Quicklime - a white caustic alkaline substance consisting of calcium oxide, which is obtained by heating limestone and which combines with water with the production of much heat; lime.

Slakelime - a soft, white, crystalline, very slightly water-soluble powder, Ca(OH)2, obtained by the action of water on lime: used chiefly in mortars, plasters, and cements. Also called: calcium hydroxide, calcium hydrate, hydrated lime, lime hydrate.

Answer:

Quick lime is calcium oxide formed by heating limestone. Slaked lime is calcium hydroxide which is formed by adding water to the calcium oxide. Calcium hydroxide can be mixed with sand to form lime mortar which is an excellent material as it sets very slowly unlike Portland cement which will crack as a wall settles. The great thing about slaked lime is it mixes with carbon dioxide in the air, gives up its water and reverts to limestone.

Two advantages - it dries very slowly and thus does not crack ad the wall settles and two, if a crack appears it ‘self heals’ as CO2 gets in and the crack seals itself as it reverts to limestone.
