When dilute hydrochloric acid is added to sodium bicarbonate solution, the products formed are sodium chloride, carbon dioxide gas and water. The occurrence of reaction can be seen by the release of effervescence at the end of test tube. Hence, effervescence due to the release of carbon dioxide gas will be seen.
