- The melting point of the sulphur is less than the iron.
- That's why when we heat up the mixture of iron fillings and sulphur powder,the sulphur gets melted first.
- This melted sulphur reacts with the iron fillings present in the mixture and forms black coloured iron sulfide chemical compound.
