Reaction between dilute hydrochloric acid and zinc
Observation
- When dilute hydrochloric acid (HCl) is added to the test tube with zinc pieces, releases of the bubble are seen.
- The zinc starts to produce a huge amount of small bubbles in no time.
Test of the gas:
- The gas evolved must be collected in a test tube.
- When a burning match stick is bought near the mouth of the test tube, it is put-off with popping sound.
- This proves that the collected gas is hydrogen gas.
Use of hydrogen gas:
- As it is very less in weight when compared to air, it is used in spaces.
- It is used in the production of ammonia-based fertilizers.
