The following observations were made when high voltage is applied to discharge tube containing cathode and anode :-
- When hight potential difference is applied not only cathode rays new rays are also produced
- These rays moving from anode to cathode and passed through the holes of the cathode
- These rays are called as canal rays as they passed through the canals of the cathode and also known as anode rays as they are originated from anode
- The rays were earlier called as positive rays as they contained positively charged particles
