When mustard seed oil is mixed with water and mixed together they form the two separate layer forming the oil and water layer separately.

The oil is hydrophobic in nature, and they are insoluble in water.

EXAMPLE:

  • Add drop of the oil in water, then leave this for some times.
  • The two separate layer can be seen on surface of water.
  • The oil bubble can be seen separately.
  • It is seen in this way because the oil is insoluble and denser than water.
  • Hence the oil cannot dissolve in water.
