What do you observe when pressure is applied on brittle substances like glass, biscuits and coal? What type of change is it?

If a substance is brittle then it means the substance is hard and fragile at the same time. (Eg. Glass, ceramic etc.) Now,when we apply pressure on such brittle substances,the substance gets cracked easily due to it's fragile nature.
