Mathematics is the science of numbers and their operations, interrelations, combinations, generalizations, and abstractions and of space configurations and their structure, measurement, and transformations. Every aspect of life has something to do with math. Therefore, one cannot live without it. Nowadays, we use math without even realizing it. Interior design is one example.
When designing, I sometimes need to work on a budget. I have to know how much is needed, in order to know how much to spend. Painting my room is one example. How will I know how many buckets of paint to buy if I don't calculate how much wall space there is to paint? Geometry helps me stick to that budget. Also, getting measurements of my room floor in order to put carpet or tiles requires math. Putting drapes on a window or door requires me to measure the material and the window or door. This is all mathematics.
"Measure twice, cut once", a phrase used for woodworking, means you have one chance to cut a piece of wood so, be sure you have to right measurements. Cutting wood for furniture and adding the furniture in a room requires a little math. I calculate to know if there is enough room to add a couch or desk.
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to use the laws of heaven and earth to help one improve life by receiving positive qi. It has measurement requirements for furniture to allow good "chi flow". For example, when sitting at the deck, your back should never face the door and there should be a solid wall behind you.
