Decentralization is important in India because it's not possible to center the power all at one place in such a vast and highly populated country.

Explanation:

  • Home to a billion people and 28 states and 9 U.T's, India ranks 7th on the list of worlds largest countries and second in the most populous ones.
  • In a country like India, decentralization is important because it minimizes the gap between demands and outputs as the states act independently of center.
  • Besides in a country with such a vast area and population, to support a centralized or unitary form of government is not possible.  That is why the framers have adopted decentralization.
  • Decentralization, therefore, becomes very important in India as it ensures the smooth and quick functioning of the government by reducing the burden on the center which otherwise halts the efficiency of government.
