I think your question is about experimental farms. I give below the answer.

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research have over the years taken the initiative to set up experimental farms in order to run pilot projects on various crops. Even though some of us know about the rice research stations, other crops like wheat and maize are also experimented with. Scientists in some of these experimental farms are also working on fruits, tea and coffee.
The basic aim of experimental farms is to create high-yielding breed of crops, which would give us nutritious produce, viz. cereals, fruits, cash crops etc. In fact, we became a country of  'plenty of food' from one of 'food shortage' with the pioneering research work of our experimental farms.
Farmers and their associates, as well as others involved with agriculture, interact with these farms so that the efforts of the pilot projects is translated into actual reality on a bigger scale.
