I think is the colour of ‘sour cream’ is yellow or creamy white. Sour cream meant dirt & foul smell. I think the poet has used this expression ‘sour cream’ to describe the colour and foul smell of the classroom walls. Because the walls of a classroom in an elementary school in a slum are dirty(colour) , damp and give the smell of sour cream(foul smell).
