what do you think of solubility of alkanes in water based upon non polar nature of alkanes?

lahore778: How????? Plz explain because i don't know
lahore778: Nhi pta hai to kia karoon .... ab ao ho na btany k liay .. lekin jo baat b poochti hoon nhi btaty ... phir bhd me ye b kehty hab k mujy satisfy kesy karo ge

yes it is true that alkanes are non polar in nature that's why they are insoluble in water

because if something in dissolve in water it is converted in the form of ions that dissolve the substance in water

lahore778: No problem
lahore778: Keun btaoon???
lahore778: Nhi btati zabardasti to wesy b nahi kar sakty ap
lahore778: Dra kissay rahy han .... me apse nhi darti aur wesy b me to apny ap ko bacha loon ge ... ap ko kon bachay ga ?????? Aur me chahti hoon ap zabardasti karen me b dekhoon zara ap ki zabardasti .....

Answer: alkanes are insoluble in water

Explanation: The solubility of substances is governed by: Like dissolves like, which states that polar compounds are soluble in polar solvents and non polar compounds are soluble in non polar solvents.

Alkanes are hydrocarbons with general formula C_nH_{2n+2}. They are non polar in nature due to less difference between the electronegativities of carbon and hydrogen and thus are soluble in non polar solvents only.

Water being a polar solvent is unable to dissolve non polar alkanes in t.
