what do you think Rama would have done if so many stones were not available to construct the bridge
Answers
Rama was worried how to take this massive army to Lanka and he came up with a plan. Why not request Sagar to part its water so that his army can walk through it. It was a brilliant plan and Rama immediately sat in prayers. He continuously prayed for 3 days but Sagar dev didn’t came. This made him angry.
He was a powerful warrior with many devastating weapons in his arsenal. He took an arrow, this arrow had powers to dry the whole sea and was about to shoot when Sagar appeared and asked for forgiveness. Sagar is home to many living creature and because Sagar was asking for forgiveness, Rama forgave him. But, then he asked Sagar to suggest a way to carry this vast army to Lanka and then he gave this idea to build the bridge. Nal and Neel, two leaders of vanara army, were “cursed” that the objects they touch would never sink in water. They were also great engineers and hence Sagar suggested it was easier to build a bridge and indeed it was … because they managed to build that long bridge in 5 days only.
In this story, that curse is very important. Otherwise, building bridge would have equally challenging as building ships. Imagine the material required for building a sustainable bridge in sea. Not to mention the time required to build such bridge. Ships can still do multiple passes. If some vanara was cursed to make fast ships quickly, it would have made sense to make the ships.
