We’d be dead in ten minutes after passing out. Your heart is vital for bringing oxygenated blood to your brain(and the rest of your body) and bringing de-oxygenated blood to your lungs. Without a supply of oxygenated blood going to the brain, your brain will begin to die out. 8 minutes will definitely lead to brain damage.

If our heart is made of voluntary muscles, we would not last long as a species. Or we develop some way to keep us awake 24/7.
