Answer:

  • By the way the conductor responds to Valli we understand that he has found a joke in her words.
  • Vallikkannan's Madam Rides the Bus is a story about a eight years girl and her first bus journey.
  • Valli had no mate and for that she used to stand in the front doorway of her house for watching outside. Even it was her pastime.
  • One fine spring day the afternoon she went out for bus. Simply she had to go to town.
  • When the conductor stretched out a hand to help her up ,Vali replied, " Never mind, I can get on by myself, you don't have to help me". Listening this word the conductor made joke on her and said everybody please move aside and let her come in.
  • All the passengers began to laugh looking at Valli. Valli found an empty seat and sat down.
  • Again the conductor said smilingly, " May we start now madam".

The bus conductor in the chapter Madam Rides the Bus was a cheerful and jovial fellow. He did not miss an opportunity to make fun of Valli seeing her behave confidently and domineeringly. However, he was also very caring. When the bust reached the town, he asked Valli to get down the bus and stroll around. He also offered her to get her a cold drink, which Valli declined to have.
