Hey mate here is your answer information about - :

Aldehydes - An aldehyde is an organic compound containing a functional group with the structure −CHO, consisting of a carbonyl center with the carbon atom also bonded to hydrogen and to an R group, which is any generic alkyl or side chain. The group—without R—is the aldehyde group, also known as the formyl group.

Ketone - is an organic compound with the structure RR', where R and R' can be a variety of carbon-containing substituents. Ketones and aldehydes are simple compounds that contain a carbonyl group.

They are functional groups of organic compounds .A functional group is a group of an atom or a radical which imparts certain properties to the organic compound . An example of a functional group is Alcohol .

Alcohol is represented by K - OH where K is a group of carbon atoms and OH is the functional group attached to it .

Similarly there are other functional groups like aldehydes and ketones . Explanation about these is given below ↓

Aldehydes

Aldehydes are functional groups having double bond of oxygen . The aldehyde is always present at the starting of the chain of an organic compound .

The first aldehyde is called methanal and is denoted by the formula H-CHO .

Ketones

Ketones are functional groups containing double bond of oxygen but they are always present at the middle of the organic compound . An organic compound can never begin with a ketone but it can begin with aldehyde .

The first ketone is called propanone denoted by H₃CO-CO-CH₃ .

NOTE :

Do not confuse with the nomenclature .

Always know that aldehyde is present in the compound if the oxygen double bond is at the starting of the chain .

Otherwise it has to be a ketone .

The longest chain rule and the other rules must be followed .

IUPAC naming is done by using the formula :

Root word + primary suffix + secondary suffix
