BINOMIAL NOMENCLATURE

"The scientific method of naming a living organisms by using two names or components, a first name refers to Genus and second name refers to Species".

RULES OF NOMENCLATURE:-

1) Scientific names are generally in Latin.

2) Scientific name of the organism must contain two names such as Genus name and Species name.

3) The first letter of Genus name should start with a capital letter and the Species name should be starts with a small letter.

4) Scientific names should be written in italics when printed and they should be separately underlined when handwritten.

5) The name of the author should be written in an abbreviation.

Example:- Mangifera indica Linn. It indicates that the species name was first described by Linnaeus.

Two examples:-

*Homo sapiens (Human),

* Mangifera indica (Mango).
