Biological diversity is the differences in genetic between individuals (can be of same or different species) in a defined population. Genetic variation and thus biological diversity is created by random mutations (some beneficial, other harmful or neutral), natural selection, gene flow and genetic drift then influence prevalence of certain genetic traits in a population. Variation is lso caused by random segregation and independent assortment during meiosis (gamete formation) as well as sexual reproduction in which genetic information from two different individuals is combined.
