Coal which we use today is formed millions of years ago and got burieddeep under many layers of Earth. Also coal is made from dead remainings of plants. So when we burn coal, we arethe energy captured from the sun. Therefore, Coal is referred as BURIED SUNSHINE.

Coal is a type of fossil! Coal is often called as buried sunshine, because the plants which formed coal captured energy from the sun through wonderful process called photosynthesis.
