I'm assuming you'd like both of these answered, yes? :)

In order to obtain high production per hector of water body, fast growing compatible species of fish of different feeding habits are stocked together in the same pond so that all its ecological niches are occupied by fishes. This system of pond management is called mixed fish farming or composite fish culture. It is also known as polyculture.

- essentially it is a kind of fish farming where five or six different species of fishes are grown together in a single fish pond. Fishes with different food habitats are chosen so that they do not compete for food among themselves.

As for disadvantages...

•Some fish rear only during a monsoon.

•There's some difficulty in recognising which seed belongs to which of the species.  If all of them lay eggs at the same time, there will be a big problem to distinguish between those eggs.

•There's a lack of availability of good quality seeds.
