Answer:

reaction in which heat energy is liberated by the reactants is called exothermic reaction.

eg:   Carbon + Oxygen gives  Carbon Dioxide + Q

reaction in which heat energy is absorbed by the reactants is called endothermic reaction.

eg:  Nitrogen + Oxygen gives 2 nitrous oxide (2NO)  -  Q

Exothermic reaction :-

In thermodynamics, the term exothermic process describes a process or reaction that releases energy from the system to its surroundings, usually in the form of heat, but also in a form of light, electricity, or sound.

Example :-

simple example of an exothermic reaction is combustion, such as lighting a candle. An initial input of energy causes oxygen and wax react to produce carbon dioxide, water, and heat.

Endothermic reaction :-

An endothermic process is any process with an increase in the enthalpy H of the system. In such a process, a closed system usually absorbs thermal energy from its surroundings, which is heat transfer into the system.

Example :-

Endothermic reactions: Heat is absorbed.

1) Photosynthesis: Plants absorb heat energy from sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. 2) Cooking an egg: Heat energy is absorbed from the pan to cook the egg.
