HTML basically stands for -
Hypertext : It is an ordinary text that has some special features such as formatting, pictures, images, multimedia facilities and linking to the other documents.
Markup : It is the process of adding extra symbols and features to the ordinary text to provide the excellence presentation to the document.
Language : It is a programming language just like other high level programming languages (C, C++, Java, SQL), which provides an environment with a number of codes or syntax to execute the required tasks.
Hypertext Markup Language is the language that can be run on any computer having any Web browser. It has a collection of styles (Tags) that define the various components of a World Wide Web document. An HTML document can be opened in any operating system or any hardware.
History of HTML :
A Hypertext Markup Language was originally designed and developed in 1989 by researcher named Tim Berners Lee at CERN the European Physical Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. CERN researcher Angina developed the first world wide web program in 1990 and began releasing programs to Internet users in 1991.
This HTML is a subset of SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language). This SGML was developed at IBM (International Business Machine) in 1986 to define markup language.
Now a days HTML has become very popular with its mechanisms for style sheets, scripting, frames, embedding objects, support of various directions to text, tables, frames.
