Indian standard meridian is standard time of India. It means that India's standard time is calculated by standard meridian.
We need it because
- India is the largest country, almost 30° are passing from Gujarat to Arunanchal Pradesh
- Due to that there is difference of 2 zones
- Therefore, 82°30'E has taken as standard meridian which is almost passing from centre of India
