A kolkhoz was a model of the cooperative farms in the Soviet Union. Kolkhozes subsisted along with provincial lands or sovkhoz. These were the two important segments of the socialized plantation division which began in Soviet agriculture after the  1917 October Revolution. It acts as contradiction to both feudal structures of bankrupt serfdom and patrician landowners or family farming.
