Landscape of the Soul by Nathalie Trouveroy contrasts two forms of art – European art (about reproducing an actual view) and Chinese art (about not creating a real landscape) by using two different stories
Explanation:
- ‘Outsider art’ is raw in its form. It is the product of a genius who has got no formal training in art. Such artists have no right to call themselves artists. Nevertheless they flourish on the basis of their abilities and talent. Anything and everything could be used for this work of art. Therefore, it is entirely different from the concept of conventional art.
- The untutored genius was an untrained creator of raw art, whose name was Nek Chand. He had created a paradise, the Rock Garden, at Chandigarh, wherein he sculpted with stone and recycled materials. He used anything and everything from a sink to a tin to a broken down car to form an artistic piece
- Today he has been hailed as India’s greatest contributor to outsider art, and he has taken outsider art to such great heights. The UNESCO has recognised Nek Chand's art as an exceptional testimony of the difference a single individual can make when he/she lives his/her dream’.
