Protocol as the name indicates is a set of rules that are agreed between the computers connected over a network. Protocol enables the two computers to interact with each other as it forms a base for common language between the two computers. The rules define the format of the data to be transferred, operations for send and receive of data and method of acknowledgement after data is received. Some of the examples of the protocol are HTTP, FTP, SNMP, etc.
