Public Interest Litigation is directly filed by an individual or group of people in the Supreme Court of India and High Courts of India and judicial member. The person who is filing the petition must not have any personal interest in the litigation, this petition is accepted by the court only if there is interest of large public involved

Any one can approach the court if public interest has been violated. The court intervene to prevent the misuse of the government's power to makes decisions. They check the malpractice on the part of public officials.
