Swadeshi means using the goods made by your own country. Swadeshi movement was the initiative started by Mahatma Gandhi during the struggle of independence. However Swadeshi movement was started in Bengal in 1905 by Indian National congress it gain momentum on large scale from 1920.

In 1920 Mahatma Gandhi launched the movement against Britishers by urging the people to follow Swadeshi movement and boycott the goods made by Britishers and insisted to use khadi which was made by Indian weavers.

The considerable effect of the movement has awakened all sectors of Indian society, especially in Bengal to fight for independence.
