Answer:

When white light incident on the prism which includes seven colors, rays of different colors are deviate (emerged out ) by the prism through different angles and travel in different directions. This is the deviation of different colors through prism.

The amount of overall refraction caused by the passage of light ray through a prism is often expressed in terms of the "Angle of Deviation".

Answer:

In a prism the ray of light suffers refraction at two faces. The prism produces a deviation at the first surface and another deviation at the second surface. Thus a prism produces a deviation in the path of light.

The value of the angle of deviation (or the deviation produced by a prism) depends on the following four factors:

(a) the angle of incidence.

(b) the material of prism.

(c) the angle of prism.

(d) The colour of light used.

Explanation:

Why is deviation caused?

..means by how much you have deviated from your actual path. Deviation is caused due to refraction.......... the ray of light either slows down or speeds up when it enters another medium from one medium...so it bends from its actual path...thus is deviates
