The concept of Directive principlesof state policy(DPSP) was adopted from Irish constitution and it aims at bringing about social and economic democracy.it is a symbol of welfare state and is an unique blend of socialism,gandhism,western liberalism and the ideals of freedom movement

The directive principle of state policy are some directions which are given in our constitution to be followed by legislative body of our country while making an legislation (simply stated - a rule or an act).
These can be simply understood as the guidelines to be followed, these are not mandatory and hence are not justiciable in court of law.
For example, there's a directive given in constitution to have equal pay for equal work, but this is not fully realised at present times...
