Human security is an emerging paradigm for understanding global vulnerabilities whose proponents challenge the traditional notion of national security by arguing that the proper referent for security should be at the human rather than national level. Human security reveals a people-centred and multi-disciplinary understanding of security involves a number of research fields, including development studies, international relations, strategic studies, and human rights[clarification needed]. The United Nations Development Programme's 1994 Human Development Report[1] is considered a milestone publication in the field of human security, with its argument that insuring "freedom from want" and "freedom from fear" for all persons is the best path to tackle the problem of global insecurity.[2]
Critics of the concept argue that its vagueness undermines its effectiveness,[3] that it has become little more than a vehicle for activists wishing to promote certain causes, and that it does not help the research community understand what security means or help decision makers to formulate good policies.[4] Alternatively, other scholars have argued that the concept of human security should be broadened to encompass military security: 'In other words, if this thing called ‘human security’ has the concept of ‘the human’ embedded at the heart of it, then let us address the question of the human condition directly. Thus understood, human security would no longer be the vague amorphous add-on to harder edged areas of security such as military security or state security.'[5]
In order for human security to challenge global inequalities, there has to be cooperation between a country's foreign policy and its approach to global health. However, the interest of the state has continued to overshadow the interest of the people. For instance, Canada's foreign policy, "three Ds", has been criticized for emphasizing defense more than development.[6]

Human security is an emerging paradigm for understanding global vulnerabilities whose proponents challenge the traditional notion of national security by arguing that the proper referent for security should be the individual rather than the state. Human security holds that a people-centered view of security is necessary for national, regional & global stability. At a minimum human security means freedom from violence & from the fear of violence.
The term ‘Human security’ was first popularized by the United National Development Programme (UNDP) in the early 1990s. ‘Human security’ as defined in the UNDP report consisted of 7 components & dimensions: economic, food, health, environmental, personal, community & political. The main contribution of the UNDP’s conception of human security was focusing on people & highlighting of vulnerability to threats other than violence. It saw security as an “integrative” rather than “defensive concept”. It emphasized that human security has a geographical & even international dimension.
The concept of human security emerged from the post-cold war era as a link various humanitarian, economic & social issue in order to alleviate human suffering & assure security. On closer review, threats to human security are characterized as being both the cause & the result of processes of disintegration of society & of state institutions.

Human security means security for individuals against both violent and non-violent threats. It is the condition or state of freedom from threats to the rights of persons, their safety or even their lives is characteristic.

EXPLANATION:

The definition of protection has been broadly understood since the very ancient times. It was perceived to be territorial defence against external invasion or the safety of national foreign policy interest or as a threat to a nuclear holocaust. The idea of security is related to national-state interests rather than individuals. In this phase we have ignored the legitimate concerns of common people and their search for personal safety through their everyday lives–protecting against violence, disease risks, poverty, unemployment, political repression, social conflict, and environmental degradation. Many people are mostly worried with their life, self-preservation and the world in the sense of vulnerability.

The logic which is built on the perspective of human security is noting that people's security in one part of the world depends on people's safety elsewhere. Both from the top down and downwards, there is a stable and secure world order. State security and the protection of global peace and security are fundamentally built on the foundation of secure people. Human security is a fundamental aspect of security; human security compounds are interdependent; human security is easier to ensure through early prevention and human security is people-centred.  Human Security was defined as the summation of seven distinct dimensions of security: financial, food, health, the climate, personal, community and political–was defined as human security.
